Potential Benefits of Glytone

Written by: Ellen R. Delisio

Glytone products are available for people with dry skin and those with oily skin. All Glytone items contain pure glycolic acid, which is the alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) containing molecules that are the smallest and have the ability to penetrate the skin most deeply among the AHS. The formula for Glytone products also allows the highest level of AHA available to treat the skin-called free acid--to be released. Products are available with different levels of glycolic acid, to introduce the skin to the substance before moving on to a product with the maximum level of AHA.

The different levels of glycolic acid have varying effects on the skin. When the bioavailability of a substance, that is, the concentration of acid that can be absorbed by the skin, is between 4 percent and 6 percent is applied to the skin, it begins to step up production of the substance that the skin uses to build protein. When the bioavailability level is between 8 percent and 12 percent, collagen production increases. Collagen is the material that holds skin together. When the level increases to between 12 and 15 percent, collagen production is way up, and the elastin levels are increasing as well. Elastin allows the skin to stretch and shrink without causing wrinkles.

When the 20 percent level is reached, the glycolic acid helps to reverse skin damage from sun exposure, and can even shut down the irregular skin cells that can cause skin cancer.

Products also are pH balanced and contain antioxidants to help repair skin damage from sun and wind.

Glytone products also may improve skin tone and enliven the user's complexion by first removing damaged skin, and then refreshing the new layer of skin. Removing the dead skin also prevents pores from becoming blocked, which can decrease the likelihood of skin breaking out. Products also can improve the skin's ability to absorb moisture and help fade wrinkles and fine lines.
