The Glytone Skin Rejuvenating System is manufactured by Genesis Pharmaceutical, Inc., which has its manufacturing and distribution offices in Hazel Park, Michigan, and its administrative offices in Parsippany, New Jersey. Genesis specializes in skin care products made from natural ingredients, including plant extracts and vitamins, as well as glycolic acid. Genesis also markets another line of alpha hydroxy acid skin care products known as WellSkin. Genesis acquired the marketing and distribution rights to WellSkin from IGI, Inc. in December 1998.
According to Genesis Pharmaceutical, Inc., its vision is "to build a leading skin care pharmaceutical company with a focus on cosmetic dermatology products."
Genesis was created in 1995 to develop, obtain, license and market products for the skin. The Glytone line was launched in 1992 by C&M Pharmacal, and C&M sold the complete skin rejuvenation product line directly to physician accounts. C&M Pharmacal was purchased by Genesis in 1998. Genesis now employs sales representatives who call on dermatologists to interest them in buying Glytone products.
Three years ago, Pierre Fabre Dermo Cosmetique USA, a subsidiary of the Pierre Fabre Group, acquired Genesis. Pierre Fabre was interested in Genesis because of its high standing with dermatologists and the reputation of its products. The business deal allows the companies to pursue providing specialty products to the dermatological market. The acquisition did not change Genesis' corporate structure.
The Pierre Fabre Group, a multinational pharmaceutical company, has more than 8,100 employees and offices in more than 130 countries. Its focus is on research, development manufacturing and marketing of skin care and other products.
Genesis Pharmaceutical also has developed agreements with American Home Products to promote Minocin? and Suprax? to primary care physicians. The medications are oral antibiotics; Minocin for the treatment of acne and Suprax for acute respiratory infections.
