Precautions of Kinerase

Written by: Ellen R. Delisio

Almost no side effects have been reported for Kinerase products. However, as is the case when trying any new product, it is best to consult with a physician before using Kinerase products. Then for the initial use, spread some of the cleanser, cream or lotion on a small area of skin to see if there is any allergic reaction. Some skin redness may occur after the initial use, but that quickly fades.

Kinerase products also do not permanently change the skin's nature, so if one discontinues using the products, the skin returns to its prior condition.

There is a caution for pregnant and nursing women who might want to use the products. Kinerase cream is recommended for pregnant and nursing women rather than the lotion, because the lotion contains retinyl palmitate, which is pre-formed vitamin A. Excess intake of vitamin A can be toxic and could raise the risk of having a child with birth defects. Pregnant women and women who may become pregnant should not exceed 5,000 IU of pre-formed vitamin A daily.

Users also should not apply the C6 Peptide Intensive treatment any closer to the eye than the orbital bone.

Products also must be stored at specific room temperatures, between 59 degrees and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

As for the company itself, Valeant Pharmaceuticals, Inc., under its prior name ICN Pharmaceuticals, Inc. withstood a charge of securities fraud from some shareholders in U.S. federal district court in 1996. A jury turned down the majority of the claims, and on others, could not reach a verdict, resulting in a mistrial. The complaint had to do with public statements made ten years earlier pertaining to the company's proprietary drug, Virazole. That drug is used to treat infants hospitalized with severe respiratory tract infections caused by a respiratory virus.

ICN's CEO at the time praised the jury's decisions, noting that the company always maintained that all of its disclosures were complete.
